What are boredom breakers?

Boredom breakers are hamster safe activities and chews which can be given to a hamster to keep them busy and entertained.  By giving them something to do that is both mentally and physically stimulating it can help prevent stress and boredom, as well as keeping their teeth trim. 

 

Purpose-made boredom breakers can be bought, or they can be homemade out of items such as cardboard and tissue.  I have quite a few videos on making different boredom breakers and they can be found at the end of this section. 

 

​My favourite homemade boredom breakers are clean, sterilised pine cones or empty half walnut shells which can be filled with food or treats and hung up with some hamster safe jute or sisal string.  The string costs about £1or £2 and lasts a very long time. 

 

My favourite boredom breakers to buy are the little wicker or woven grass shapes which you can hide seeds and treats inside.
