Branches, Grass Mats & Moss

Branches & Wooden Slices

To add clutter and different textures to an enclosure, hamster safe branches and wooden slices can be added such as birch, cork, grapevine, java and bamboo roots.  This not only helps provide extra coverage so a hamster can feel safe when exploring an enclosure, they are safe to chew as well.

Ensure any heavy branches are securely supported to prevent any accidents or injuries.

Grass Mats & Moss

To provide even more textures in a hamster enclosure, items like grass mats and moss can be used.  These can be placed in areas such as on top of platforms or bedding.

Some hamsters may take the moss back to where they are sleeping and use it as part of their nest.  Moss is also great for filling gaps in items such as bendy bridges, so little paws don't get trapped and hurt.

When using a barred enclosure, placing grass mats along the sides enables more bedding to be added so a hamster may burrow.
