Bridges & Tunnels
Bridges, Ramps & Steps
Bridges, ramps and steps not only help a hamster safely navigate around their enclosure but also provide little hiding spots where they can feel safe while exploring. If there are any gaps where a hamster can get a paw or leg stuck, you can fill these with pieces of moss.
Tunnels
Tunnels can be placed on the surface or submerged under bedding to provide a hamster with hiding spots, helping them feel safe as they navigate their enclosure. If a hamster isn't burrowing, using a tunnel as a starter burrow that leads down to a hide can sometimes help.
Tunnels can be made from many things such as cardboard, cork, hyacinth, seagrass, terracotta, wicker, wood or you can even make your own for free out of cardboard or cardboard mache.
Ensure any heavy tunnels are securely supported to prevent any accidents or injuries and that any entrances are at least 7cm wide for Syrians and 5cm for Dwarf species, this is just so they can navigate through them easily, especially when their pouches are full.
