Do all hamster enclosures need lids?

Yes, yes they do!
I always presumed this went without saying, but a year ago I created and shared this infographic because I was seeing more and more hamster enclosures being used without lids.
I'm sure nobody wants their hamster to escape and become injured or lost. Likewise, I'm sure nobody wants another animal to get into their hamster enclosure and hurt or kill their hamster. A secure lid can also provide protection from things accidentally falling into the enclosure. This can be particularly useful if the enclosure is positioned beneath shelves or other areas where objects could potentially be knocked down.
Over the years, I've had 2 random cats just wander into my home. One even managed to jump in through a tiny window! I've also had wild mice get in too, although all were eventually caught humanely and released back outside. If I didn't have safe and secure lids on my enclosures, I dread to think what could have happened.
